HTC Sensation, the initial model, was brought in to fight back the much in hype Samsung Galaxy SII. This android was released just around the time Galaxy SII was released, but it did not match the level of Galaxy SII. Within a short time span of 2 months, to outsmart Galaxy SII, HTC has come up with a revamped HTC Sensation XE, which is much better and superior to its elder cousin. Gadget gurus suggest that Sensation should have been something like Sensation XE to stand against SII.

Features in Detail
Design and Looks
HTC Sensation XE has looks just like HTC Sensation, but with a slight increase in size. Of course HTC Sensation had killing looks and thus even XE looks quite attractive just like its previous sibling. But Sensation XE is one step ahead and the illumination on the keys, red color tinge and the border around camera makes this gadget look quite attractive. This is a touch screen bar phone with 126.1 x 65.4 x 11.3 mm, 151 g dimensions.
Sensation XE supports the given network specifications :
- Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support
- 14.4 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
- Call quality and network handling capacity is excellent.
OS and User Interface
As we would expect an Android released at Q4 for 2011, it’s OS is Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. Just below the display you will see four touch sensitive keys – Home, Options, Return and Search. They are damn functional and also impart an amazing level of smoothness while device is being operated. As you would expect from a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, the user interface is snappy and responsive.
With a 768MB RAM, you would never run out of memory even if you have a lot of Apps running parallelly. The revamped HTC sense 3.0 UI is a little more animated now and there is no lag on any button press or application launch. Most of the other aspects are almost similar to its older sibling. Also HTC has committed to update the phone to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in near future and that would definitely utilize the power of dual core processor fully.
Sensation XE inherits the 4.3-inch display from the elder one, Sensation. This phone has S-LCD display that makes the readability, color evenness and brightness factors just so good. You will get a completely smart and crisp experience when it comes to the display part. Playing games or watching videos on Sensation XE was exceptional with a battery (1730 mAh) to support it for long hours of playback or play. But outdoor performance under direct sunlight was not too impressive.
Processor and Memory specifications
Sensation XE uses Qualcomm MSM8260 dual core @ 1.5GHz Power which is really an appreciable thing compared to 1.2GHz on Samsung Galaxy SII. 768 MB RAM that this gadget carries makes the responsiveness and working quite smart. But I would have not surprised to see a 1GB RAM to support this powerful processor and to compete with Galaxy SII. 768 MB RAM is what I have on my 1-year-old HTC Desire HD. It has 4GB of internal memory where you can have all of your Apps and no need of external SD. And if you are one like me who stuffs all the songs and videos on the phone, then you have 32GB expandable SD card slot also, which you would expect normally these days.
Camera on Sensation XE
I have always loved camera on HTC phones. HTC produces some of the best camera phones and this one is no exception. HTC Sensation had the 8MP camera and this legacy is carried forward to the younger Sensation XE as well. You would like taking and viewing the pictures and videos and the credit for this goes to the color depth that the camera bears. But the camera is a bit more sensitive to light and thus graining is experienced to certain extent. This 8 MP autofocus camera is equipped with features like LED flash, face detection, touch-focus, image stabilization and geotagging, which you would associate with any high-end smartphone.
One awkward thing I notices was the absence of the physical camera button on side. On front we hav a VGA cam to capture the video calls.
When you slide down the notifications bar you will come across the extra tab that has quick settings. This will help you in functions like turn on/off stuff like Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, GPS, the Mobile Network etc. This means that this device will work as a Wi-Fi Hotspot when you want and that’s not a HTC feature but an Android 2.3 feature.
In Sensation XE you will find accommodation and inclusion of DLNA via the connected devices app and this helps in streaming multimedia via supported DLNA certified Audio/Video equipments.
HTC is pushing Sensationg XE as a multimedia Android smartphone with a superb display screen and excellent ear buds. The major specification and feature that Sensation XE has is, the Beats Audio branding that the gadget has. Of course, this is a branding strategy but as a result of this the consumer gets the best quality and highly potent ear phones. These special edition buds stay with you as the best option for portable music gadget.
HTC is known for its superb cameras, but sadly they are not too good at giving good batteries which lasts long enough. Most of the older high-end HTC smart phones were equipped with a 152o mAh batteries, which would drain off too quickly for heavy users. One good thing is that his phone is it’s got a bigger battery with 1730 mAh. But sadly it doesn’t made much difference to the same old story with the HTC phones. For heavy users, it drains off too quickly the we had to keep an eye on the level each time we used it. Overall HTC tried to give something better, but still not up to the mark.
